Green LED TV
There’s not that much of a substantial debate on whether LED-Lit is better than LCD TVs but it’s good to look at what the debate is all about.

LCD utilizing CCFL or Cold Cathode Ray Tube lighting is what was the standard. It had its benefits for the time but then again it also had its drawbacks until LED-Lit came along. The contrasts are startling in both display and performance, longevity, and energy savings. We’ll not focus on the third alternative technology Plasma, as this is to focus on the two LED vs LCD. The traditional LCD uses the CCFL which is comprised of a separate light source that illuminates it. This light source is just like any fluorescent light you’ve seen before. It uses up much more energy than the LED and doesn’t last as long. Those factors alone should be enough to get a customer going but the costs are quite different since LED is the newest technology, far more efficient, gives a better display and is easier to handle.

The LED or Light Emitted Diode approach has so many pros vs cons that the fact the systems cost more is almost irrelevant. That’s because the savings down the road, up to 40% less than CCFL or LCD, would pay for the unit in the long run. Not only that but the lifespan of the LED is far more than the LCD. The LCD measures in at around 50,000 hours if that whereas the LED is going to clock in at around 100,000 hours of user fun and without several other drawbacks. Leaving an LCD screen on means the lifespan diminishes more rapidly, the unit can be damaged and more. The LED is using so much less power and the energy and heat dispersed more that the unit can withstand much more.

LED LCD Comparison

The picture quality is far superior with the LED and the issues of viewer angle discomfort not an issue at all. LCD screens will get that glare if one isn’t sitting in just the right position whereas with LED that issue isn’t a concern as mentioned before.

Optimum Viewing Angle

Mind you now, LED-Lit HDTV can be of three various configurations and you’ll need to know them to make sure you’re purchasing the unit you truly want. There is RGB, White Edge, and Full Array. Each performs a task of distributing the light evenly and achieving various results. The LCD using CCFL has a fluorescent tube like approach and you get just that. Think of LED as more like the skin of a chameleon, the small lizard that can change color to match its surroundings. The multiple LEDs in the panel can be fine tuned and adjusted by the user but also when receiving the signal from the broadcast or recording device or game console, it can zero in on the details giving a more vivid and enjoyable picture.

So overall there isn’t that much to say in regard to the better man or better display when LCD comes up against LED. The technology of choice is the LED because of it’s advanced and efficient engineering and overall performance, longevity, energy efficiency and most of all picture quality.
