  • Customer Rating TV Nice, but DVD Player Not Working, 2011-09-14
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
Ordered through Amazon and received TV the last week of July 2011.

This TV is set up in my kitchen and used infrequently. The sleek design is nice. The picture is great. The sound quality is only ‘okay’ (a little on the anemic side).

Now, here’s my problem: Yesterday, I tried the DVD player for the FIRST TIME. I know, I should have tested it earlier, but I just assumed that it would work. I’ve had plenty of Toshiba products in the past that I was really satisfied with.
The DVD player DOESN’T work. 🙁
It loads, processes for a few seconds, then ejects the disc. (I’ve tried a few different DVD’s.)

I’ve had it for 43 days and the limit for returns is 30 days.
So, it seems that I’m stuck with a TV with a DVD player that never worked. I could have paid a lot less for a slimmer set without the DVD player (but I really wanted the combo).

Customer Rating Nice TV, no good choices for audio, 2011-04-21
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
I chose the Toshiba because of the tiltable stand and the placement of the dvd slot — left side, and the general quality of the manufacturer. What I didn’t realize when I went for the LED model instead of the LCD, is that this TV has no headphone jack, only an digital optical out. You would need the GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder to connect additional speakers. I don’t know why Toshiba took the headphone jack out of this model when no one is ever going to use such a small TV with a sound system receiver. TV manufacturers could also give up on putting the speakers on the back of the TV, since it makes the sound so muffled. It sounds like a cell phone or something equally not quite there.

Beautiful TV, if you could hear it or realistically connect it to anything.

Customer Rating sound is terrible, 2011-09-10
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
The picture quality is fine on the tv but the sound is none adjustable. You can turn the volume up and down with very little change. In the morning it seems ok but at night you cannot get enough volume out of the tv to here it 10 ft away.
    Not reccommended for purchase.

    Customer Rating TV/DVD Combo, 2011-09-17
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
I purchased this product to allow time to past while on deployment. When I received the product it was prior to the estimated delivery date so I was very excited. When I tried to play a DVD, I found out that the DVD player did not work! I was so angry, so assumed it was the type of DVD so I purchased a DVD from the store for about 38.95 and it still would not play. I could not send back due to me being deployed, I had to purchase an additional dvd player! SUCKS!!

  • Customer Rating Great little TV, 2011-07-16
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
I bought this for our camp trailer and it really works great. I’m very happy with the picture quality and when we don’t have a TV signal where we are camping the DVD player comes in handy for the kids on a rainy day. I liked it so much, I just bought a Toshiba 32″ for the family room at home.

  • Customer Rating Nice Little TV, 2011-09-09
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
I bought this TV for use in my home office. It’s the perfect size, user friendly and has a great picture. I can see how one may be disappointed in the audio. If you’re looking for TV sound that booms across a room, this isn’t the one for you. But for my purposes (on the corner of my desk while I’m working), it’s just fine.

  • Customer Rating Toshiba comes through again, 2011-07-13
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
I recently purchased another brand on recommendation, and had difficulty with the company and FedEx. Finally, unable to resolve it , Amazon just refunded my money and finished it for me(Another reason I’ll always be a returning customer!). I re-ordered another brand, one I’ve always been statisfied with, having purchased laptops and DVR’s from them through Amazon. I bought tht e Toshiba 19″ flatscreen tv with built-in DVD player, and was completely satisfied upon arrival. It came timely, well-packaged, and with all components complete. It started right up out of the box, was easy to set up, and had quality throughout; the picture and sound were geat, and everything on it worked—first time! Best of all, no delays, no “rock and a hard place” between FedEx and TV company, and the process was smooth from order to setup. As far as Toshiba as a company, I have always been satisfied, both with laptops and DVR’s, and now, flatscreens! Way to go, Toshiba and Amazon!

  • Customer Rating The Cost of Getting Good Audio, 2011-05-04
This review is from: Toshiba 19SLV411U 19-Inch
As another reviewer mentioned, this Toshiba LED television does not have a headphone jack. This means that many of our computer speakers or headphones aren’t compatible with this model unless you pay for it. Well I paid for it and now have fantastic audio blaring out my TV, but I thought others should know how much it’ll cost if they want to do the same thing.

    What you’d need to buy:

    1. A Toslink Digital Optical Cable ($5-15)
    EX.Mediabridge – Toslink Cable – Optical Digital Audio Cable – 6ft
“One of these is needed as the Digital Optical Output has replaced the headphone jack.”

    2. Gefen Digital to Audio Decoder ($80-95)
    GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder
This box converts the digital audio signal into analog. What this means is you plug the Digital Optical Cable in one side of this, and get the Red and White RCA output on the other.

    3. A RCA Male to 3.5mm Stereo Female Y-Cable ($5-10)
    EX.Cables To Go – 03182 – 3.5mm Stereo Female to RCA Male Y-Cable
This cable has the traditional white and red RCA connection on one end, and a headphone jack input on the other. So you’ll plug the Red and White end of the cables into the decoder, and finally have your headphone/speaker input to plug in whatever you want.

So that’s $90-120 for a crazy headphone jack! The last thing I want you to know is that using this method, you can’t control the speaker/headphone volume through the TV. What this means is that if your speakers/headphones don’t have a volume nob on them, then you’ll only get one medium level of volume with no way of lowering or raising it.

Now that I’ve gotten past the frustration of getting my Harman Kardon speakers attached, I’ve got to say that I’m pleased with my purchase. The TV is sharp looking, seems durable, the built in DVD player works great, and playing Xbox 360 on it using a HDMI cable looks unbelievable. I thought 19 inches might be too small, but it’s actually a perfect size for my compact den. The audio is poor which is why not having a headphone jack is such a big issue, but its worth stating that the vast majority of these LED television have poor audio, and that the headphone jack is being phased out of most 2011 televisions as well. I’m just glad there was a solution, because now that everything is set up, it’s pretty great.
